Photography Ethics
Our Commitment to Ethical Wildlife Photography
Every Conservation Photography Experience is founded on a simple belief: the welfare of wildlife always comes before the photograph.
The most meaningful wildlife images are those that tell authentic stories—animals behaving naturally in the places they call home. As both a wildlife photographer and conservation biologist, I believe that understanding ecology and animal behavior is far more rewarding than manipulating a scene. Patience, observation, and respect consistently produce stronger photographs and richer experiences.
Wildlife First
All wildlife photography during our workshops is conducted in situ—without handling, restraining, baiting, feeding, relocating, or otherwise manipulating animals for the purpose of creating an image.
We maintain appropriate viewing distances, minimize disturbance, respect sensitive habitats, and follow all local laws and regulations. In Costa Rica, for example, the handling or disturbance of wildlife is prohibited by law, and we fully support and uphold these protections.
If an ethical choice means missing a photograph, we will always choose ethics.
Respect for Wild Places
We are committed to leaving every place better than we found it. Participants are expected to follow Leave No Trace principles, remain on designated trails when appropriate, avoid damaging vegetation or wildlife habitat, and respect local communities, researchers, and protected areas.
Photography should deepen our appreciation for nature—not diminish it.
Conservation Through Photography
Every workshop is designed to create a positive impact beyond the images we bring home. We partner with local organizations, support responsible ecotourism, highlight ongoing conservation efforts, and encourage participants to become ambassadors for the places and species they photograph.
A portion of every workshop registration is reinvested in conservation through local conservation initiatives or carefully selected climate and carbon-removal projects that help protect biodiversity for future generations.
Our hope is that every participant leaves not only with memorable photographs, but with a deeper understanding of the ecosystems they explored and a lasting commitment to protecting them.
